It’s Never Too Early
As an increasing amount of research shows that many adult spinal, back and skeletal problems can start as early as birth and definitely well-within childhood, it’s no surprise that many parents are turning to chiropractic care to help their children avoid future pain problems. A child’s developing spine and nervous system are very susceptible to harm and damage can even occur during the most “natural” of birthing methods. When children start going to school and donning heavy backpacks, even more stress and strain can be inflicted on their developing backs, causing things to develop incorrectly. Whether you are trying to prevent future problems, or address current ones, taking your son or daughter to Leake Chiropractic for our chiropractic care can better their lives without the use of harmful medication.
Infant Problems
Having a sick baby can be a terrifying thing for a parent—particularly for new parents who constantly second-guess themselves about what’s normal and what isn’t. Irritation to an infant’s spine or nervous system could be causing many infant health complaints and could be fixed by simple adjustments to the spine. The following newborn health concerns can be caused by cranial or spinal misalignments:
-
Respiratory (breathing) problems
-
Difficulties nursing
-
Colic
-
Chronic ear infections
-
Allergic reactions
-
Trouble sleeping
It’s really never too early to bring your child in for a chiropractic checkup as small problems which begin at birth could pop up any time as the child is learning large motor skills (walking and crawling).

Later Childhood Problems
As your child starts to do larger movements and eventually starts running, climbing trees and riding bikes, small issues that didn’t present themselves earlier might start to show. Also, keep in mind that your son or daughter’s spine is still growing at this point, so small injuries which are a part of most people’s childhoods might have a bigger long-term impact than you think. If you neglect these injuries when they occur, you could cause your child to experience more serious issues as an adult because the problem wasn’t addressed when it first occurred. Remember, too, that adolescent spinal problems like scoliosis can start to present themselves as your child gets older, so a chiropractic checkup is equally important when your children are in their teens as it is when they are in infancy.
